Comfort in pain, creature of habit.
Chiu, a good friend at work jokingly (he'd better be, else I'd have his hide!!! Haha.) said to another colleague who told me she found my blog that it's full of complaints (hence, no fun to read) while he writes about his travels (which is, therefore, much more interesting). I suppose there is truth in that, since this site's like my outlet. Well, at least I don't complain to people... so if they don't like it, they don't have to listen to me... I don't ever point a gun at anyone (except maybe several reminders to my sister when I was away) to read my blog.
Anyway, let's see, there's been a few changes (good ones, I think) at work this year. For one, I've not had to go to the animal facility for a couple of weeks now. It's been nice to be able to sit in the office and get some reports, presentations, data analysis done. (Also makes me happy to be in contact with my fellow human beings at work.) I'd have to get started in the lab again soon. Reckon it'll take some effort to bring myself down there then. And it's planned for longer hours, around 9 hours, I think. Argh... *groans* But I'll get through it.
In the time that I haven't had to do the everyday training of my rats, I've had the chance to work on different things, so that's really refreshing. And I've just had a change of boss (/supervisor, if you like), who's one of my close girlfriends at work. It seems a little strange now cos' I'm quite sure it'll have a slight effect on the dynamics of our friendship. But in time I think it'll sort itself out. She's going to be a great boss, I can see that. I'd be able to approach her for advice and guidance that I've not been able to with my big boss. He's too intimidating for me to talk to him. Before Darrel (my big boss) handed me over, he was very kind to give me some different experiments to conduct so I could learn new things. And that was extremely good of him! (Absolutely no sarcasm here!) ^_^
Yesterday (Wed) I forsook my gym session and opted instead to play spectator sports. (No regrets there.) Went to a basketball match at the indoor stadium with my 'lil sis. The Singapore Slingers vs The Melbourne Tigers. A fantastic game! All exciting and fun to watch. Cute players! *Drool* Some very cool moves. A slamdunk. Singapore lost though. 89 vs 96. It was an AIA family night and I must say the MC was the worst one I've ever encountered!!! He was irritatingly loud and his voice broke countless of times. It sounded like he was slaughtering chickens! Geehz. Other than that one glitch, everything else was cool. Oh, and like most sports in Singapore, only one of the players was Singaporean. The rest were foreigners (Ang-mohs and 2 blacks). I'm tempted to think the presence of the Singaporean Chinese guy in the team was purely representative, since he was warming the bench up till the last 9 s of the game. We even plucked up courage to ask one of our favourite players to take a photo with us! It's sitting in my phone. (One of these days it'll be up in my Flickr. I've been slowly uploading pics into Flickr and I'll put the link up sometime. Hee.) He's so TALL (close to 2 m if I'm not wrong)!!! My sis and I look like midgets beside him! And people who know us will know that we are not generally considered petite girls.
Oh, and since I'm updating, I met up with a girlfriend, Joyce, whom I haven't seen for months to go shopping on Mon (on the advice of Chiu, who thinks I should get a life other than my routine of work-gym-home or work-home on the weekdays). We both found clothes we fancied and spent quite a bit. Good old retail therapy! I must say she has amazing taste in clothes and carries a unique style.
Hence concludes a rather (nicely) out-of-the-ordinary work week for me.
