Just because...
Let's see, I've not been up to much lately that I could talk about... Merely satisfying an itch to write.
There was a small JC class get-together at Brewerkz some weeks ago. I dropped by after my gym session and had a pleasant evening catching up on what the others have been up to. One of my good friends back in those days recently got engaged to a guy she dated for 2 months. (Well, she knew the guy back in our school days. I've met him briefly back then too. It's amazing how he's carried a torch for her all these years. She's a very popular girl, that one.) He's doing well in the financial world, so I think you can picture the size of the rock on her finger. The girls especially, were ooo-ing and aah-ing and discussing stuff like what kind of ring to ask for, proposals, engagements etc. It tickled me how out of it I was, how I felt like a kid listening in on the grown-ups' conversations. I wonder if it was strange that not for a second did I feel envious of them. It also struck me then the vastly different things my group of close girlfriends from uni and I talk about when we have our girly meetings. Sure we talk about men (Have you met anyone interesting lately? Debate over who's the hottest actor on the scene.), but for the most part, we bitch about work, worry about the future of our careers, discuss thoughts on current affairs (we got 'ink' one k? haha), interesting books we've read/are reading and occasionally we have the 'ooo, have you heard/did you know??' gossip etc. I suppose it could be because quite a few of us are single so hardly any thought drifts that direction.
One of the best times I've had lately was with my sis. We met up for dinner one Tuesday evening. The choices we narrowed down to Subway and Long John Silver's. I diplomatically suggested I'll get my subway sandwich and buy her the Long John meal she wanted then we'll pick an inconspicuous corner in either of the 2 places to eat together. She said it was no fun that way so I relented and said I'd eat Long John with her. Less than 5 minutes into queueing, she told me she only wanted the fries from there and we could eat Subway together. We're always like that. I'd give in to her then she'd turn around and say we could do things my way. Sometimes this drags on with both of us insisting, 'No, we'll do what you want.' This time she won (as in she managed to convince me she's ok with eating a sandwich) and we had Subway. We talked about anything and everything and laughed hard throughout the meal... More laughing ensued in the movie theatre... (There was some crying involved too. Though not from me. My sis said that's cos' I'm an emotionless and unfeeling scientist. haha.) 881 was good. And this from someone who barely watches local productions.
Our all-female clique went for Womad last Sat. It was great fun! Though I started feeling quite exhausted around midnight [bleagh... I'm old liao... :'( Training wasn't even very tough that day...] The Jap OKI Dub Ainu band was interesting. The David D'Or guy from Israel has a damn 'powderful' voice lah!!! And the last act on the Fort Green stage, the South African Youssou N'Dour & the Super Etoile de Dakar group was very good too. Myztika, Ichaya and I went for a roam around during one of the intervals. But we didn't manage to attend any of the workshops, cos' we mainly parked ourselves on the mat little Clarissa brought in front of the stage.
My tiredness carried over to Sunday so that I missed the run I'd told myself I'd try to go for and my training after that. I slept in, ATE, read and watched anime with sis. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday though that meant there's debt to pay this week... *weak laughter*
