Kuala Lumpur

I've been lazy and busy (mainly lazy. haha), hence the lack of postings...

I made my first trip to KL (I know, I know, how slow right? haha...) over the National Day weekend. I've wanted to visit for the longest time, just cos' it's so near and almost everyone I know has been there at least once, even the foreigners. And especially since I've an old friend working in KL now.

Christian helped get me moving when he asked if I'd like to join him for his friend's wedding dinner there on the Friday evening. We managed to buy our coach tickets the week before and left Friday afternoon. (We took different coaches there. He got the more luxurious kind while I went with a budget one.)

My friend, Allan, picked me up at the bus station in KL and then at the hotel Christian was dropped off and sent us to the country club where the dinner was held. Man, the place was so ulu!! We were circling around for ages. And to be honest, the dinner was hardly worth the effort. The food was terrible and as far as Chinese wedding dinners go, this was as boring as it could be.

So when Allan picked us up after the dinner, Christian was in need of some real food and we went for supper at a night market. The boys had rice with very good Tom Yam soup, sambal prawns and deep-fried pork ribs. My appetite had been completely ruined by the less than palatable dinner before so I merely had a couple of bites. But it was delicious. ^_^

I was pampered over the next 2 days with more food, being chauffered around (he even opens the car door for me!) and not to forget, shopping! :D After a late breakfast at a kopitiam near his place, Allan took me to a huge shopping mall (1 Utama) where we browsed around leisurely for several hours and had cinnamon buns for tea. :) This is where I ran into Jusco's shoe sale and happily bought 3 pairs of shoes over the 2 days! haha. Dinner was at a street market where we had prawn noodles a well-known stall.

I had to take my tourist pictures of the Petronas Towers so we went to KLCC for a walk. This is one branded shopping mall... Nothing I could afford there... But we strolled nonchalantly into LV for a quick look around.

He then drove me up to a hilltop for some breeze and the nightview. After which we met up with his mum, sister and her family for supper.

Sunday came all too soon. Try as I might, I couldn't sleep late, crawled out of bed at 8. Chatted with one of his housemate who said I should get Allan to bring me to try the dim sum near their place for breakfast. Just like she said, it was good. We were lucky to zoom in on a table fairly quickly as the place was packed and there were loads of people standing around waiting for seats to be freed up.

We picked up Christian and went for beef kway teow for lunch. It was so good!!! Quite different from Singapore's style. KL's version had minced beef over the noodles and in a separate bowl of soup you get slices of beef, tripe and meatballs.

Allan then said he wanted me to have a look around another popular mall, Sungei Wang Plaza, which is much like our Far East Square, very hip, very youngster-y, and much cheaper than the other 2 malls we went to earlier. Too bad there was no more time to shop, we had to go wait for our bus at a nearby hotel. It was good seeing my friend again. And getting out of Singapore for a bit, even if it's just for a couple of days.

Think there's no need for me to label the photo on the left.
My friend, Allan and me at the fountains in front of the towers. (I could upload these photos cos' he emailed them to me. hee. If it were my camera, it'd still be in there... haha)
